The Gautron family are in the Bay of Plenty have been involved with stonemasonry for more than four generations working with some of the finest stones available in Europe and from all around the world.

Paul started his apprenticeship at the age of 15 with the family business in the beautiful Island of Jersey. On the Island, stone was used to build Neolithic stone tombs, Elizabethan castles; Napoleonic forts, large stone Manor and Farm houses and examples of these are dotted all over the Island.

One of the most important parts of learning his trade was to be able to fully restore some of these amazing buildings as well as working on new contemporary projects.

A basic apprenticeship was 6 years, this covered stone laying and being able to cut basic lintels, cills and jamb stones. Another 4 years for restoration, stone dressing such as arches, gothic windows and finally carving, polishing and hand cut lettering completed the requirements to become a Master Mason.

Paul holds several Qualifications in stone masonry, monumental masonry and stone management including:
City & Guilds Stonemasonry Construction level 2 - for Monumental stone work (memorials & headstones)
City & Guilds Stonemasonry Construction level 3 - for Stonemasonry, Banker masonry, Restoration, Granite and Marble fixing
NZQA Assessment National Certificate in Stonemasonry at Level 5 Diploma - all areas of stone work.
Industry Expert for Hyde Stone and Branz.

Paul and his family came to Tauranga in 2003 and are delighted that through their hard work and dedication have been able to build a range of business relationships varying from working on family homes, through to receiving contracts from large Corporate Companies requiring all manner of stone work.

Due to the high demand for quality work, our team of masons has been carefully selected. To ensure continuity in our belief to provide the highest standard of workmanship all employees are briefed in A World of Stone Ltd's aims, practices and beliefs and it is this approach that has earned us the reputation we enjoy today.

Stone work is not just a job but also a passion and Paul spends a lot of his free time carving and pushing the traditional boundaries in the use of stone.
